Managing Stress and Anxiety

Posted on 24 July 2023

It’s a great day to reflect on and acknowledge any current stressors you or those around you may be experiencing.

Sometimes an act as simple as writing a list of tasks or concerns can be a visual prompt in recognising things we need to work on or need some assistance with.

For businesses its a fantastic time to review your organisation’s Mentally Healthy Workplace plan and also set a regular timeframe to review and update where needed.

Scheduling Team Building/Bonding exercises with your co-workers or having regular Mental health check-ins with your employees is fantastic for building morale and boosting engagement.

It’s necessary to pause once in a while and indulge in a little self care and relaxation! Taking some time out to do something you enjoy for yourself (or with your loved ones) has been shown to be an effective way of lowering stress and boosting happy hormones.

If you (like many others) feel as though you could benefit from extra tools and support with managing stress and anxiety there are a few things you might consider –

  • The Headgear App it has a daily mood tracker, an Interactive 30 day Challenge to build your Mental Health toolbox and other fantastic support and content.

  •  Practicing some mindful/guided meditation (YouTube has a treasure trove of videos available to help with this)

  •  Making scheduled weekly (or daily) time to relax with your favourite book/music/movie or tv series. Having something positive to look forward to & indulge in is fantastic for mood boosting.

  •  Scheduling an appointment with your GP to get a referral to a psychologist or counsellor (Having a professional and impartial ear to our problems can be a massive help)

  •  Educating yourself and others about Mental Health and the symptoms

  •  You can visit Beyond Blue for a vast range of articles, support services and tools (for yourself and for others) or Heads Up for tools for employers.

Sometimes we get so caught up in our day to day lives and meeting work deadlines etc that we don’t always notice when someone we know could use some support.
Regularly checking in with family, friends, colleagues and employees and encouraging an open dialogue regarding mental health and support strategies are a fantastic starting point for ensuring those who need help have supportive and inclusive access to it.

“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.” – Fred Rogers
